Classwork

I've had so much library searching to do recently, I've changed the default page of my browser from the Guardian Online to my university's library search page. Much reading about the Voice of America, international broadcasting, public diplomacy, propaganda--I'm trying to find out why jazz was so prominent on VOA during the Cold War; why not rock or country--music that the majority of Americans actually listened to?

South Africa: Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton

Father, let me dedicate All this year to you
In whatever earthly state You will have me be
Not from sorrow, pain, or care Freedom dare I claim;
This alone shall be my prayer: Glorify Your name.
--from New Year's Hymn by Lawrence Tuttiett, 1864 (alt.)
